Forbidden: Aditi Mangaldas Dance Company
DanceHouse presents the North American premiere of Forbidden, a contemporary solo based on Kathak, with community partner Indian Summer Festival at the Vancouver Playhouse, 600 Hamilton Street. Aditi Mangaldas conceived, choreographed, and performs the work, which explores female desire and the social taboos that surround it. She trained with Kathak gurus Kumudini Lakhia and Pandit Birju Maharaj and leads the Aditi Mangaldas Dance Company and the Drishtikon Dance Foundation in India. The creative team includes composer Nicki Wells, dramaturge Farooq Chaudhry, lighting designer Michael Hulls, and costume designer Kimie Nakano. Both performances begin at 8 PM and run for 60 minutes without an intermission, with a pre-show chat at 7:15 PM in the Upper Lobby each night and a post-show social in the Salon on Friday.
